SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) Medaglia d'Oro, the 3-5 favorite, won the $500,000 Jim Dandy Stakes by 13¾ lengths Sunday at Saratoga Race Course.

Medaglia d'Oro, ridden by Jerry Bailey, made the pace throughout - opening a lead out of the gate and heading into the clubhouse turn.

He maintained a comfortable advantage throughout the backstretch and on the far turn, then opened up on the nine-horse field throughout the stretch. Medaglia d'Oro ran the 1 1-8-mile race in 1:47 4-5.

Medaglia d'Oro paid $3.30, $2.80 and $2.50. Quest finished second but was disqualified to last place for interfering with Iron Deputy.

Gold Dollar was elevated to second and paid $10.20 and $6.30. Third-place Essence of Dubai paid $5.70.

Easyfromthegitgo, Peekskill, Nothing Flat, Stephentown, Iron Deputy and Quest completed the order of finish before a record crowd of 69,523.

The race was marred by the fall of Richard Migliore, whose mount, Iron Deputy, was in a challenging position turning for home.

With Gold Dollar to his inside and Quest to his outside, Quest came in on Iron Deputy, forcing Migliore to check so hard that he lost his stirrups. Migliore bounced once on his mount, then fell hard to the track and was taken to Saratoga Hospital.
