Japan, Guam, Netherlands Antilles Win Regional Titles

Teams from Japan, Guam, Netherlands Antilles, and Venezuela won regional tournaments Sunday to reach the Little League World Series.

A team from Valencia, Venezuela, beat Curundu, Panama, 3-2 to take the Latin America Region title Sunday in Managua, Nicaragua.

On Saturday, Sendai Higashi Little League of Sendai, Japan, beat a team from Seoul, South Korea 6-1 in the championship game of the Asia Region Tournament in Manila, Philippines.

Guam beat Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, 6-2 in the final of the Pacific Region Tournament, also in Manila.

Pariba Little League of Curacao, Netherlands Antilles, beat Adalberto Rodrigues Little League of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, 17-1 in the Caribbean Region Championship in St. Croix, Virgin Islands.

All teams open play Aug. 17 in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. Guam plays the Latin America Region champion, Curacao faces Monterrey, Mexico, and Japan plays the European champion from Moscow.

Sixteen teams will take part in the series for 11- to 12-year-olds from Aug. 16-25.
