EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) Edmonton Oilers right wing Anson Carter agreed to a one-year contract Monday, a day before a scheduled arbitration hearing for the restricted free agent.

"Anson had his best ever season last year and it can be disconcerting when a team's budget is controlled by somebody else," Oilers general manager Kevin Lowe said. "This contract reflects Anson's contributions, but still keeps us within our target numbers."

The 28-year-old Carter made $1.9 million last season when he scored 28 goals and had 32 assists.
