PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins claimed defenseman Dick Tarnstrom off waivers from the New York Islanders on Tuesday.

Tarnstrom, 27, had three goals, 16 assists and 38 penalty minutes in 62 games with the Islanders last season, his first in the NHL. He also was scoreless with two penalty minutes in five playoff games.

The 6-2, 200-pound Tarnstrom collected 42 goals, 75 assists and 210 penalty minutes in 346 games with AIK in his native Sweden.
