WASHINGTON (AP) Rookie Tamika Catchings had 28 points and 10 rebounds as Indiana beat Washington 64-55 Tuesday night. Catchings was 10-of-20 from the field, including 5-of-12 from 3-point range, in posting her 10th double-double of the season. She hit a desperation 3-pointer that just beat the shot clock with 4:04 left that gave the Fever (13-15) a 57-48 lead. Coco Miller and Helen Luz hit consecutive 3-pointers for Washington (15-13) to make it 59-55 with 2:34 left, but that was as close as the Mystics would get. Miller led the Mystics with 12 points.
Lynx 52, Liberty 49 NEW YORK (AP) Tamika Williams had 13 points and seven rebounds and Minnesota kept New York from clinching a spot in the playoffs. Katie Smith had 10 points and Tamara Moore added nine, including two free throws with nine seconds left, as the Lynx (11-19) won their third straight game. Tari Phillips scored 17 points and Tamika Whitmore had 12 for the Liberty (17-12), who needed either a win or an Indiana loss to clinch the playoff berth. They got neither as their three-game winning streak was snapped.
Sting 76, Shock 65 AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) Tammy Sutton-Brown scored 19 points and Andrea Stinson added 14 as Charlotte snapped a five-game losing streak. The Sting, however, lost All-Star point guard Dawn Staley to a sprained ankle with two minutes to play. Her status for Friday's game in Minnesota wasn't known. Allison Feaster added 12 points for Charlotte (15-14), which moved one-half game ahead of Orlando and into third place in the WNBA's Eastern Conference. The top four teams in conference qualify for the playoffs. Elaine Powell had 15 points and Swin Cash added 10 for Detroit (8-21), which had won two straight.
Comets 67, Rockers 54 HOUSTON (AP) Tina Thompson, who scored 19 points to lead Houston, collapsed on the court with 47 seconds left and was carried off on a stretcher. Thompson was kneed in the hip while attempting to block a layup by Rockers guard Merlakia Jones. Thompson landed on her feet and then collapsed. The game was delayed almost 10 minutes. "She has a contusion to the right hip," Houston coach Van Chancellor said. "I don't know if she'll play Thursday against Los Angeles or not, but it does not look long term. We don't know how long it's going to take her to get back, but knowing Tina, if there's any way in the world, shell be back pretty quick." The Comets (22-7) won their 13th straight home game, tying a team record. Chastity Melvin and Penny Taylor each scored 13 points for the Rockers (10-18), who were eliminated from WNBA playoff contention. MORE
