SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) A filly by Unbridled's Song brought the top price of $750,000 as the Fasig-Tipton yearling sales opened Tuesday night with business down from last year.

The average purchase price for the opening session was $241,565; last year it was $305,603. The gross this year, with 46 yearlings sold, was $11,112,000; last year it was $17,725,000 with 58 head sold. The top price at last year's opening-night sale was $1.85 million.

This year's opening-night sales topper was purchased by Bob and Beverly Lewis and was consigned by Gainesway Farm of Lexington, Ky. Her sire won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile as a 2-year-old and her dam is a full sister to two-time champion Housebuster.

The Lewises also paid $500,000 for another filly, this one by Tale of the Cat and consigned by Highclere Sales.

The top price for a colt was the $700,000 paid by Mrs. M.J. Dance Jr. for a son of champion A.P. Indy. He was consigned by Lane's End Farm of Versailles, Ky. The sales continue Wednesday and Thursday night.
