CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers, who last week completed one of the biggest deals this offseason, signed rookie forward Carlos Boozer on Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not released. Boozer was the 35th overall pick in the 2002 draft following his junior season at Duke. He averaged 18.2 points and 8.7 rebounds this past season when Duke was upset by Indiana in the NCAA Tournament. As a sophomore, Boozer helped Duke to the NCAA championship. The 6-9, 280-pound Boozer played for the Cavaliers' summer league team and averaged 17.5 points and 10.3 rebounds in four games. "We are very happy that Carlos has signed his contract with the Cavs," general manager Jim Paxson said. "We were pleased with how Carlos performed on our summer league team and we feel that he will be a contributor to our team this season." The Cavaliers, who have not made the playoffs since 1998, acquired forwards Darius Miles and Harold Jamison from the Los Angeles Clippers for point guard Andre Miller and forward Bryant Stith on July 30. Cleveland took guard Dajuan Wagner with the sixth pick in the draft. Copyright © 2002 SportsTicker Enterprises, L.P. |
