Pincay wins two races at Del Mar to reach 9,400

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) Laffit Pincay Jr. rode two winners at Del Mar on Wednesday to extend his record total of thoroughbred victories to 9,400.

Pincay, 55, rode Bluesthestandard to the latest victory in the sixth, a $35,000 claiming race. He earned win No. 9,399 two races earlier aboard Big Shakespeare. His two earlier mounts Wednesday finished second and fourth.

Dance Dreamer, the favorite in the field of five, won the featured $78,650 Escondido Handicap.

Ridden by Kent Desormeaux, Dance Dreamer was last through a mile, drew to just two lengths back in third entering the stretch, and led a four-wide finish, clocking 2:12.86 for the 1 3-8 miles. Dance Dreamer paid $3.60 and $2.60 with his fourth victory in eight races.

Homeland, who finished 1¼ lengths behind the winner, paid $3.40. There was no show wagering. Little Ghazi was third, another two lengths back.
