DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) Omar Figueroa, an 18-year-old apprentice, rode Gypsy Road to a wire-to-wire victory in the $57,000 feature race at Del Mar on Thursday. It was the first win at the track for the native of Puerto Rico. Gypsy Road held off a late charge by Taormina to win the 1 1-16-mile race on the turf by a length and was timed in 1:42.11. Groom on the Run, the 2-1 favorite in the field of seven California-breds, was third, another 2½ lengths back. Gypsy Road, a 4-year-old gelding carrying 114 pounds, had won just five of 28 previous races. He paid $19.60, $10.40 and $5.60. Taormina returned $11.40 and $5.60, while Groom on the Run was $3.40 to show.
