SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) Three yearlings sold for $900,000 or more Thursday night as the three-day Fasig-Tipton auction closed. Buzz Chace, agent for Aaron and Marie Jones, purchased the sales topper, a son of Unbridled's Song, for $1 million. He was brought to the ring by Dromoland-Hartwell, acting as agent. D. Wayne Lukas, agent for a group of buyers, paid $950,000 for a son of Forestry consigned by Eaton Sales, and John Oxley paid $900,000 for a son of Grand Slam consigned by Highclere Sales. The average purchase price was $251,729 for the three nights, with gross receipts of $35,242,000 for 140 yearlings. Last year, the average purchase price was $385,259 with a gross of $62,412,000 for 162 head. Thursday night, 50 yearlings sold for $12,310,000, an average of $246,200.
