RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (AP) Luiz Felipe Scolari resigned Friday as coach of Brazil's soccer team, less than six weeks after leading the nation to an unprecedented fifth World Cup title.

Scolari said he wanted to dedicate more time to his family. Despite his resignation, he is expected to coach Brazil one more time, in an exhibition game against Paraguay on Aug. 21.

That will be Brazil's first game since it beat Germany 2-0 in the World Cup final on June 30. Scolari picked his entire 23-man World Cup roster for the exhibition game, to be played in Fortaleza.

Scolari, who had been expected to stay on, met Friday with Brazilian Soccer Confederation president Ricardo Teixeira.

"I told the president of some difficulties," Scolari said. "I have to be more dedicated to my family, and I have other things pending."

Scolari plans to give lectures in the United Arab Emirates, Poland and other countries.

"Now I'm a speaker. I'm important," he said with a laugh.

Scolari became Brazil's coach in June 2001 as the nation struggled in World Cup qualifying.
