BOSTON (Ticker) -- Chattanooga outfielder Mike Edwards homered in the top of the 18th inning to lift the Lookouts over Huntsville, 8-7, in the longest game in the Southern League this season.

The 25-year-old crushed a three-run blast with one out in the 18th to give Chattanooga an 8-5 lead.

The game was one of only two in the National Association to reach 18 innings this season and was the longest in the league since West Tenn blanked Mobile, 3-0, in 18 innings on July 8, 2000. ...

Reading (Eastern League) first baseman Nate Espy snapped a scoreless tie with a solo homer in the top of the 14th inning as the Phillies beat Akron, 2-0, on Sunday. ...

TOP PITCHING PERFORMANCES

El Paso (Texas League) lefthander Mike Gosling recorded the second shutout of his first professional season and picked up his league-leading 12th win in a 6-0 victory over Midland in the first game of a doubleheader on August 2. Gosling scattered three hits and two walks while striking out five. The 6-2, 210-pound southpaw was 6-0 over eight starts before allowing four runs, six hits and six walks in 4 2/3 innings against Round Rock on Wednesday.

New Haven (Eastern League) righthander Rhett Parrott recorded his second complete game in three starts in the Ravens' 9-2 victory at Portland on August 3. Parrott, who pitched a three-hit shutout on July 24, allowed two runs and six hits with seven strikeouts and a pair of walks over to win his third straight start. Orlando (Southern League) righthander Dewan Brazelton pitched seven scoreless innings to snap a personal seven-game losing streak and record his first win since May 4 in a 5-1 victory over Tennessee on Saturday.

West Tenn (Southern League) righthander John Webb, who retired 17 of 18 batters between the first and seventh innings, yielded one run and two hits over seven frames with six strikeouts to earn his first Class AA victory in a 5-1 win over Carolina on Saturday. ...

Chattanooga (Southern League) lefthander Lance Davis ended a personal six-game losing streak with a seven-hitter Wednesday, defeating Huntsville, 2-1. Davis yielded an unearned run in the ninth inning and struck out 10. ...

LOWLIGHTS

Harrisburg (Eastern League) designated hitter Jason Brown went 0-for-18 with 12 strikeouts in six games from August 1-6 since joining the club from the Pittsburgh Pirates' organization. Brown was batting .123 with 33 strikeouts in 65 at-bats for three clubs this season.
