ATLANTA (AP)_ Nikki Serlenga and Kelly Cagle scored goals, and Briana Scurry posted her sixth shutout as the Atlanta Beat secured the final WUSA playoff spot with a 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Charge on Saturday.

Atlanta (11-9-1) joined the Charge as repeat playoff teams in the WUSA's second season, and eliminated San Jose in the process.

The Beat will face Philadelphia (11-4-6) in the semifinals if Carolina loses at San Diego on Sunday. Atlanta defeated Philadelphia in the semifinals last year with an overtime goal.

Philadelphia, which scored a league-high 24 second-half goals, was shut out for just the second time. Scurry equaled her season-high with seven saves.

Atlanta lost 2-0 to Philadelphia in the season opener this year.

"This was an exorcism that needed to occur," Atlanta coach Tom Stone said. "We just embarrassed ourselves in that game."

Serlenga scored her third goal in the fifth minute, beating Melissa Moore, who entered the game leading the WUSA in goals-against average.

"It was one of those things where somebody won the ball and kicked it back out to me," Serlenga said. "I didn't really have time to settle it, so I just hit it. It was really important to score early because the way things went the last two games."

Scurry turned away a pair of breakaways by Marinette Pichon to maintain the lead.

Cagle scored her first goal of the season to put the game out of reach. Cindy Parlow's crossing pass was redirected by Charmaine Hooper to a wide-open Cagle, who had an easy shot from 15 yards out.

The Charge outshot Atlanta 15-8, with their best chance coming in the 51st minute. Pichon took a feed from Heather Mitts and got behind the Atlanta back line before missing over the crossbar.
