Fortunate Card, Lawbook win Florida Stallion Stakes races

MIAMI (AP) Long shots won both divisions of the Florida Stallion Stakes at Calder Race Course on Saturday.

Fortunate Card, a maiden making her second career start, edged Heavenly Miss in the $75,000 Desert Vixen division for fillies, and Lawbook beat heavily favored Trust N Luck in the $75,000 Dr. Fager open division.

Fortunate Card and Heavenly Miss were nearly even from the quarter pole to the wire with Fortunate Card winning the photo. Running Debate rallied for third, five lengths back, in a field of nine going six furlongs.

With jockey Sebastian Madrid aboard, Fortunate Card won in 1:11.60 and paid $26.80, $9.20 and $7.60. Heavenly Miss paid $4.40 and $4.60, and Running Debate returned $4.80 to show.

Lawbook caught Trust N Luck nearing the wire and won by three-quarters of a length.

Ridden by Roger Velez, Lawbook covered six furlongs in 1:11.20 and paid $18.40, $5.40 and $3.40. Trust N Luck, the 4-to-5 favorite, returned $2.80 and $2.20. Supah Blitz paid $2.60 to show.
