SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) Pat Day broke the career money record for a jockey Saturday, riding With Anticipation to victory in the $500,000 Sword Dancer Handicap at the Saratoga Race Course.

With the $300,000 in prize money, Day's horses have earned $264,580,968 in his 29-year career. Chris McCarron, who retired last month, had the previous record of $264,351,679.

"I would like to thank the thousands of horses that got me here," Day said. "I'm very thankful for With Anticipation. He was very courageous."

It was With Anticipation's second consecutive victory in the Sword Dancer. Denon was second, followed by Volponi.

Long shot Grammarian took the field through a fast pace until Volponi challenged on the outside and Denon came through on the rail turning for home.

Volponi hung slightly as Denon took the lead and Grammarian faltered. Denon spurted to a two-length lead at the eighth pole, but With Anticipation, who couldn't find his best stride until the final 100 yards, ran him down by a head. The time for the 1 ½-mile race was 2:24.

With Anticipation paid $7.60, $3.80 and $3. Denon paid $3.50 and $3. Volponi returned $5.50 to show.

"It's a great thing to be a part of," With Anticipation trainer Jonathan Sheppard said. "I was hoping it would happen, but it was almost too much to ask for."
