SEATTLE (AP) Trent Dilfer, given Seattle's starting quarterback job in the offseason, sprained his right knee in the Seahawks' 28-10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday night.

It was not immediately known how seriously Dilfer was injured. The Seahawks announced he sprained the knee, but coach Mike Holmgren said in a halftime television interview it was more serious.

"He had some ligament damage," Holmgren said. "We won't know the extent until tomorrow."

Playing in his third series against the Colts, Dilfer was hit by defensive tackle James Cannida and defensive end Chad Bratzke as he attempted a pass to Koren Robinson with 2:02 gone in the second quarter.

Dilfer was helped off the field and carted to the Seahawks' locker room. He threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to James Williams in the first quarter and the Seahawks led 10-0 when Dilfer left and was replaced by Matt Hasselbeck.

Indianapolis backup quarterback Brock Huard, acquired from Seattle in April for a fifth-round draft choice, passed for two touchdowns in front of a crowd of 52,902 in the inaugural game at 67,000-seat new Seahawks Stadium.

The new stadium was built at a cost of $430 million at the site of the former Kingdome in downtown Seattle across the street from the Seattle Mariners' Safeco Field.

The Colts, who fired Jim Mora and hired Tony Dungy to be their coach after going 6-10 last season, scored the final 28 points.

After Aaron Elling gave Seattle a 10-0 lead with a 38-yard field goal with three minutes left in the opening period, the Colts started their comeback after Huard replaced starter Peyton Manning.

The Colts cut the Seahawks' lead to 10-7 at halftime on Huard's scoring pass to Walters in the final minute in the opening half. They went ahead 14-10 on Huard's touchdown pass to Haddad at 11:35 of the third quarter.

Indianapolis added its third touchdown 63 seconds later on a 1-yard run by Jim Finn after rookie defensive end Josh Mallard caused rookie running back Maurice Morris to fumble and linebacker Sam Sword recovered the ball at the Seattle 31.

The Colts added a touchdown with 40 seconds left on an 85-yard interception return by defensive back Clifton Crosby. He picked off a pass by Kelly and returned it up the right sideline in front of Holmgren and the Seahawks.

Dilfer completed 9 of 11 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown, without an interception, while Manning was 5-for-11 for 46 yards, with no interceptions in two series.

Huard was 12-for-16 for 161 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions, while Hasselbeck was 14-for-22 for 139 yards, with no interceptions.
