BOSTON (AP) The Boston Breakers fired head coach Jay Hoffman on Sunday, a day after the WUSA team ended its second season without a playoff berth.

Hoffman guided the Breakers to a 6-8-7 record and sixth-place finish this season. He was 14-18-10 in two seasons with the team.

"You are what your record says you are," Breakers president and general manager Joe Cummings said Sunday. "We have not been in the playoffs for two seasons, and I need to look for a coach that's going to get us into the playoffs."
