KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) Prakash Amritraj, whose father Vijay is considered India's greatest player, qualified for the main draw of the U.S. Open by winning the USTA Super National Boys' 18 championship on Sunday. Amritraj, of Encino, Calif., defeated Doug Stewart, of Malibu, Calif., 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 at Stowe Stadium. Amritraj, the second seed, is taking a semester off from University of Southern California to play some pro events as an amateur. His father, who retired in 1990, won 16 singles titles on the professional tour. Stewart, who attends University of Virginia, will play in the men's qualifier for the U.S. Open. He also plans to play in the Junior U.S. Open.
