DENVER (AP) Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Del Harris said he is no longer a candidate for the head job with the Denver Nuggets because he could not reach an agreement with the team.

Harris said he asked his agent, Warren Legarie, to tell Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe that he has decided to stay in Dallas.

He is the fourth candidate to drop out of the running.

"While I was willing to make a long term commitment, they were not willing to make the type of commitment that I felt was necessary to come to Denver," Harris told The Denver Post.

Vandeweghe said Saturday that Harris all along had reservations about leaving the Mavericks. Harris, a former head coach with the Los Angeles Lakers, has been with the Mavericks since the 1999-00 season.

Others who have withdrawn from consideration are Dallas assistant Donn Nelson, New Jersey Nets assistant Eddie Jordan and Utah Jazz assistant Phil Johnson.

Vandeweghe declined to speculate about other candidates, but said a decision will be made soon.

Nuggets interim coach Mike Evans said he is scheduled to interview for an assistant coaching job with the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.

Evans took over the team when Dan Issel resigned in December after a shouting match with a fan. Evans is considered a candidate for the permanent job.

Nuggets assistants Jeff Bzdelik and Clyde Drexler, a former star in the NBA, may also be considered.
