VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) Dallas point guard Steve Nash worked out with the Canadian national basketball team on Sunday despite protests by Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. Cuban, who doesn't want his players to compete in the upcoming world championships, is concerned that national federations haven't taken out enough insurance to cover the full value of NBA contracts. The NBA has said Cuban can't prevent Nash or other Mavericks players from representing their countries in the tournament, which will be played Aug. 28-Sept. 8 in Indianapolis. "I understand what (Cuban's complaint) is about, but Steve practiced today and we expect he'll be able to play," Canadian coach Jay Triano told the Toronto Star on Sunday. "We'll just see what transpires from here." Cuban is particularly concerned about insurance for Germany's Dirk Nowitzki and Shawn Bradley, who have pre-existing injuries. "If Steve gets hurt, he gets paid but Mark doesn't get anything," Triano said. "I can see his point." Also denied a chance to play for Canada was Toronto's Jamaal Magloire. Magloire will miss the worlds because the New Orleans Hornets are worried about a couple of nagging injuries. "I got a call from the trainer and they just wouldn't release him," Triano said. "They say he's got tendinitis in his shoulder and needs some therapy on his back and they just wouldn't let him go."
