Sweeney, a three-time All-Star selection, went 3-for-12 with a double, home run and four RBIs in three games with the Class AAA Omaha Royals on an injury rehabilitation assignment.

"He's healthy and ready to go," Royals general manager Allard Baird said. "I'm scared that he is going to come in here and swing hard enough to blow everybody out of the stadium in his first at-bat."

Sweeney, who missed 30 games with the injury, has 16 home runs and 49 RBIs in 84 games.

The Royals also plan on purchasing the contract of infielder Luis Ordaz from Omaha, where he hit .309 with 11 doubles, four triples, two home runs and drove in 19 runs in 35 games.

Ordaz spent most of the past two seasons with Kansas City as a reserve sinfielder, hitting .250 in 28 games last year and .221 in 65 games in 2000.

The Royals outrighted infielder Mike Caruso, who hit .100 in 12 games, to Omaha and first baseman Chan Perry, who hit .091 in five games, to Class AA Wichita on Monday.

The club still has a roster spot open after optioning starting second baseman Carlos Febles to Omaha after Sunday's game.
