Hot War Goes Wire-To-Wire at Del Mar

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) Hot War, the 2-1 favorite, led all the way Monday in winning the $100,000 Real Good Deal Stakes by 1¾ lengths over Black Bart at Del Mar.

Ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye and carrying 118 pounds, Hot War covered seven furlongs in 1:22 2-5 and paid $6, $4.40 and $3.

The win in the race for 3-year-olds bred in California was the third in eight starts for Hot War and was worth $60,000. It raised the career earnings of the son of In Excess to $164,430.

Black Bart, an 11-1 long shot, returned $9.40 and $4.80, and Modernist paid $3.40 to show.
