CHICAGO (AP) Chicago Cubs ace Kerry Wood and Houston pitcher Roy Oswalt were both ejected Monday night.

Wood was tossed in the sixth inning for arguing with home plate umpire Mark Carlson. Wood was covering home plate after giving up a two-run single to Brad Ausmus that put the Astros up 5-2 when he said something to Carlson.

Chicago catcher Todd Hundley and manager Bruce Kimm got between Wood and Carlson. The umpire tossed Wood immediately.

Oswalt was ejected in the seventh after hitting Alex Gonzalez in the back with a pitch. Oswalt had already hit Fred McGriff in the second inning.

Wood allowed five runs and nine hits in 5 2-3 inning, striking out 10 while walking none. He also hit Julio Lugo with a pitch and allowed consecutive home runs.

Oswalt allowed three runs and four hits in six-plus innings.
