Mercury GM Meyers Drysdale named to International Hall of Fame

Presented by Epson

PHOENIX -- Phoenix Mercury general manager Ann Meyers Drysdale was named to the inaugural class of the International Basketball Federation Hall of Fame on Friday.

Meyers Drysdale, who took over the WNBA team after last season, was one of four women and three Americans named to the Hall. Ceremonies are scheduled for Sept. 12 in Madrid.

The other Americans named to the Hall are North Carolina coach Dean Smith and former Boston Celtics center Bill Russell.

Meyers Drysdale, a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, was a four-time All-American at UCLA and a silver medalist with the U.S. Olympic team in 1976.

She remains the only woman to ever sign a free-agent contract with an NBA team, signing with Detroit in 1979, and has been an analyst for NBC, CBS and ESPN.
