CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Katie Douglas scored 15 points and WNBA-best Connecticut Sun closed with a 17-2 run and beat the league-worst Charlotte Sting 64-55 Tuesday.
The Sting led 53-47 with 5:57 left, before the Sun went on a 9-0 run to take the lead. Douglas scored the final five points of the spurt, including a driving, over-the-shoulder scoop shot with 2:59 left that put Connecticut ahead 56-53.
Dawn Staley's jumper with 2:35 left made it 56-55, but Lindsay Whalen responded with a baseline jumper on the next possession. Staley then missed a jumper and Taj McWilliams-Franklin hit two free throws on the next possession to seal the win.
McWilliams-Franklin finished with 13 points and Margo Dydek had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Sun (15-4), who won their third straight game despite 17 turnovers.
Allison Feaster scored 14 points and Sheri Sam added 11 for the Sting (3-16), losers of four straight. Charlotte shot just 38 percent and was outrebounded 37-22.
Feaster's 3-pointer with 9:15 left capped a 7-0 run and put the Sting ahead 49-42 with 9:15 left. Feaster, who hit 3-of-4 3s, has hit 20-of-33 in the last six games.
Charlotte, which missed six of its first seven shots, fell behind 9-2 before mounting a comeback. The lead changed hands four times before the Sting went on a 7-0 run to take a 22-16 lead on Feaster's 3 with 6:04 left.
Nykeska Sales hit a 3-pointer and Douglas had a 3-point play in an 8-0 run to close the half that gave the Sun a 28-26 lead.
