Luiz Felipe Scolari is reportedly under criminal investigation by Portugese officials, though it's unclear as to why the Brazil national team coach is being pursued.
According to the Associated Press, Portugese authorities have confirmed the existence of a criminal inquiry but are not obligated to reveal the reason. There are reports that Scolari has dodged taxes on millions of dollars, but those have not been confirmed.
In fact, Scolari has spoken explicitly to those charges.
"I have correctly filed all my tax returns. In all the countries where I've worked, I've always declared my income," Scolari said in a statement to the AP Tuesday. "If anything is wrong, it's not my fault. I hope justice gets to the bottom of the facts."
If Scolari has indeed failed to pay his taxes and is convicted in a Portugese court, he would face several years in prison. It seems we're a long way off from that, though.
For its part, FIFA has not offered a comment on the matter.
