We're now less than a week from the start of the World Cup in Brazil, and rosters are thinning at an alarming rate. News dropped Friday that France star winger Franck Ribery would be held out of the Cup with a back injury, and there may be a few other big names not headed to Brazil.
Now, Germany midfielder Marco Reus' status is in question after he injured his ankle in a friendly with Armenia Friday. Observe:
As of late Friday, it is not yet known if Reus will be available for the World Cup. It is reported that he did go to the hospital, however.
Russia captain Roman Shirokov, on the other hand, will be staying overseas to undergo knee surgery in Finland. He will be replaced on the squad by Pavel Mogilevets.
Mexico manager Miguel Herrera takes picture with some guy: Spoiler -- it was Tom Brady. But Herrera may not have known that.
El me pidio una foto no se quien es, ni si a ganado algo, pero le hice el dia al chavo pic.twitter.com/jTr7z8QhUH— Miguel Herrera (@MiguelHerreraDT) June 5, 2014
According to ESPNFC.com, Herrera's tweet translates to, "He asked me for a photo. I don't know who he is nor whether he has won something but I made the kid's day." He was probably kidding.
Mexico plays Portugal (sans Cristiano Ronaldo) Friday night at Gillette Stadium.
