From idol to idiot in a matter of minutes.

Veteran Australian forward Tim Cahill, who gorgeously tied his team's game against the Netherland at 1 in the first half on Wednesday ... is ineligible for play for the rest of play in Group B.

Cahill got called for a yellow card on the tackle you see above. That's the Netherlands' Bruno Martins Indi who falls to the ground. He was taken off by stretcher. His status is not yet known. It's been labeled an "upper body injury," and it did look like he landed on his face.

Australia played so well through 45 minutes, or most of it, but now there's a bittersweet aspect to it. Cahill's scored five career World Cup goals, and for the long-shot Kangaroos to have any hope, you'd think they'd need him going forward.

But since Cahill received a yellow in Australia's first game of the cup, against Chile, it means he'll have to sit for final match in group stage, which comes on Monday against mighty Spain.
