Analysis

The Braves were one of my biggest plays of the season yesterday and came through easily and they are quite cheaply priced yet again. Like many rookie pitchers, Pittsburgh's Bubba Chandler (2-6, 4.89 ERA) has been wildly inconsistent The team is 3-9 in his 12 starts. Also the end of a trip for Pittsburgh. One of its better hitters in Brandon Lowe (15 HR, 41 RBI) may sit after leaving Saturday's loss injured. Atlanta's Bryce Elder is 3-1 with a 2.34 ERA at home and has a 0.48 ERA this year in all day starts.

Analysis

DraftKings. This is a low line for Luis Castillo, who after splitting his last three starts with Bryce Miller will receive a standalone outing today. Outside of those three tandem starts, Castillo has allowed at least five hits in 7/9 games. He’s particularly struggled on the road, allowing a .270 average this season and a .300 last year. Dating back to last season, Castillo has allowed at least five hits in 13/17 games. The Tigers should be able to throw more lefties than righties at him (.259 average allowed, .279 xBA), making this a great spot for the over.

Analysis

Former NL Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara has made 13 starts this year and gone at least six in 10 of them. His home and day splits are better than the opposites. When Alcantara pitched in St. Pete on May 16 he threw six innings, allowing only an unearned run. I also have U18.5 available and that's tempting but Sandy has gone at least seven innings a few times so that scared me off. If he's not getting hit hard or wild, then six seems likely. The model has him at 6.2 innings. After using seven total pitchers on Saturday, the Marlins could use some length from Alcantara. Rays speedster and usual leadoff hitter Chandler Simpson is out again.

Caesar’s. Kyle Freeland is under this line in 9/10 starts this season, including 3/4 at home (and the one was notably in colder weather). Today will be warm, with typical hitter friendly conditions at Coors Field. Freeland’s ERA is north of 8 at home, where he’s traditionally struggled during the summer months. He’ll face a patient Brewers lineup that’s starting to heat up against lefty pitching (.787 OPS and a 126 wRC+ over the last three weeks). I’d bet this down to under 16.5 outs.

Brewers starter Shane Drohan is destined for four innings and 1-2 runs allowed before giving way to a bullpen with a sub-3 ERA. Milwaukee should pile up enough runs.
