Dana White: Canelo-Golovkin took the Mayweather-McGregor superfight date

In the immediate aftermath of boxing finally giving fans the superfight it wanted in Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin, another question immediately popped up.

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor have gone back and forth for months over putting on a boxing match later this year that they think will earn each around $100 million. The problem now is Canelo-GGG just claimed the date, Sept. 16, they were targeting for that fight, according to UFC president Dana White.

"We just lost our date to Canelo and GGG, but good, that's a good fight. I'll be at that one, too," White said via Fight Hub. "The fans win that fight. That's gonna be a real fight. That's gonna be a fun one."

Nothing was close to official, though both sides continue to say progress is being made in the negotiations. To me, the biggest hurdle that both fights need to climb is location. If Canelo-GGG ends up in Las Vegas, then Mayweather-McGregor will probably go elsewhere.

One thing is for certain though: If Canelo and GGG can come to an agreement after two years of back and forth, so can Mayweather and McGregor.
