Top Rank Boxing is in need of a new main event for Thursday's fight card from Las Vegas. Jose Pedraza vs. Mikkel LesPierre is no more after LesPierre's manager tested positive for COVID-19, according to the promotion.
Top Rank plans to reschedule the bout for a later date. It is the third fight to be canceled in the last two weeks of the promotion's return. The most prominent before this was Mikaela Mayer being pulled from her bout on June 9 two days before the fight. She later posted on social media that her doctors cleared her and said it was a false positive.
The former two-division champion Pedraza (26-3, 13 KOs) was hoping to kickstart a run at another title with a win on Thursday against the tough LesPierre (22-1-1, 10 KOs) who has yet to face elite competition.
Top Rank will move forward with a five-fight card on ESPN starting at 8 p.m. ET. Gabriel Flores vs. Josec Ruiz will now serve as the main event as a 10-round bout.
Flores Jr. (17-0, 6 KOs), of Stockton, California, has just one knockout in his last six bouts. Ruiz (21-2-3, 14 KOs) enters the fight unbeaten in his last 16 bouts, although three of them were draws.
