2014 Battle 4 Atlantis field is quite loaded
Next year's tournament at that resort in the Bahamas will have a bevy of teams to boast about.
Days removed from its third iteration, the Battle 4 Atlantis has announced its eight-team field for next November. This fledgling tournament, which began in 2011, is already competing with the Maui Invitational to become the most desired locale for college hoops' November tournament push.
Next year's bracket in the Bahamas will be very nice. It was announced on Tuesday: UCLA, North Carolina, Florida, Georgetown, Wisconsin, Butler, Oklahoma and UAB.
If you're curious as to why Georgetown and Butler, two teams from the same league, are in this, apparently the field was assembled and agreed to before the new Big East came to be. You'd have to assume organizers will put the Hoyas and Bulldogs on opposite sides of the bracket, meaning they could only meet if it was in the title game.
It's another really good batch of team for this tournament. In general, it seems the November exempt events are getting better and better, at least at the top. That's a great thing for college hoops.
If you're curious on Atlantis' cross-ocean rival, the Maui Invitational, that field was announced a year ago. Maui is always a year ahead of the other tournaments when it comes to releasing its field. The 2014 bracket will have Arizona, Missouri, Pittsburgh, San Diego State, BYU, Kansas State, Purdue and, as always, Division II host Chaminade.
