No. 1 -- Fill empty spots. The Ducks lost seven players from the start of the season -- five seniors, two freshmen who quit -- and so far, have only signed three players to replace them. That leaves coach Dana Altman with four more available scholarships heading into the month-long spring signing period that begins April 11. Finding some mature, veteran transfers is probably in order. No. 2 -- Find Kingma’s confidence. G Brett Kingma came to Oregon with the reputation of being a steely eyed 3-point specialist but struggled as a freshman, averaging just 3.1 points in only 19 games while making 15-of-48 3s. With the loss of top two 3-point shooters G Devoe Joseph and G Garrett Sim, Kingma’s development into a reliable weapon is huge. No. 3 -- Build early chemistry. Oregon admittedly struggled with chemistry early in the season as five new players were worked into the rotation. Once that cohesion developed, the Ducks took off. It’ll be the same story next season with so many roster spots to fill unless the Ducks can find a way over the summer to mesh the old with the new so they’re better prepared once the season starts.
