Bo Ryan replaced by Ross Parmley as Public Enemy Numero Uno
Bo Ryan relented and has allowed Jarrod Uthoff to go anywhere except within the Big Ten. Now it's time to turn our attention to Tulsa athletic director Ross Parmley -- who is putting crazy restrictions on star guard Jordan Clarkson even though there's been a coaching change.
Bo Ryan's days as Enemy No. 1 have concluded -- and now it's Ross Parmley's turn.
Who is Parmley, you ask?
Clarkson is a 6-foot-4 sophomore who averaged 16.5 points per game. Following the firing of coach Doug Wojcik, Clarkson asked to transfer and was given the go-ahead to look elsewhere.
But Parmley denied permission for him to consider Baylor, Texas, Missouri, Arizona and Texas A&M, according to Clarkson's mother, Jamie. The three schools that were allowed are Colorado, Vanderbilt and TCU.
"We don't know the reason behind it," Jamie Clarkson told CBSSports.com on Thursday afternoon. "Jordan has been loyal and honest. We have not been in contact with any other schools."
Now Clarkson remains in limbo. He has a hearing a week from today in which he will appeal the process.
"Our decision to come to Tulsa was based on relationships," Jamie Clarkson said. "Now everyone on the staff is gone, there's a new athletic director and the president is leaving."
Parmley was named the athletic director in January, replacing Bubba Cunningham -- who left for the same position at North Carolina. New Tulsa coach Danny Manning has brought in a completely new staff since getting the job earlier in the month.
"Coach Manning had nothing to do with this," Jamie Clarkson said.
This situation comes in the wake of the transfer saga in Madison, one in which Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan was crucified for not allowing redshirt freshman Jarrod Uthoff to transfer to a Big Ten or ACC school -- in addition to Iowa State and Marquette. Ryan and the Badgers ultimately lifted the restrictions to all the non-league schools on Thursday afternoon after receiving no shortage of national criticism.
