Double-figure scorer Reggie Johnson leaving Miami (Ohio)
Miami (Ohio) suffered a blow on Thursday, when it was reported that second-leading scorer Reggie Johnson was transferring.
Reggie Johnson scored 46 points in his first two games this season for Miami (Ohio), giving the RedHawks some optimism in the backcourt.
After an up and down first semester, though, the sophomore guard has received his release from the school and will transfer.
“It was very difficult to make this decision because of my relationship with my teammates and the staff, but sometimes things just don't work out and I realized that and decided to transfer," Johnson told ChicagoHoops.com.
“I’m looking for somewhere I can go to play with a team that has great chemistry, a winning program, a place where I can excel and reach my full potential and of course a great education.”
Johnson, a 6-foot-1 guard from Chicago, started 22 games as a freshman, averaging 8.4 points and 2.3 rebounds. As a sophomore, he’s been averaging 11.8 points and 2.1 assists through nine games. Johnson, the team's second-leading scorer, has scored at least 21 points on three separate occasions this season, but also had five or fewer four different times.
Miami (Ohio) is 3-6 this season. The RedHawks play Southern Illinois at home on Sunday.
