Duke transfer Michael Gbinije lands at Syracuse

The last impact transfer Syracuse picked up was Wesley Johnson, who was an immediate contributor after coming over from Iowa State. Jim Boeheim is likely hoping his newest one can reach that level.

Michael Gbinije, who left Duke earlier this month, committed to the Orange on Friday night during his visit to the campus, a source told CBSSports.com. The news was first broken by SNY.com.

Gbinije was a top-50 prospect coming out of high school, but didn't see much time off the bench with the Blue Devils. He saw time in just 19 games, averaging 1.7 points and 0.8 rebounds. The 6-foot-6 swingman from Chester, Va., should contribute to the Orange with his ability to knock down mid-range shots.

He is the second player Syracuse assistant coach Adrian Autry has landed from the Team Takeover AAU program, joining incoming freshman Jerami Grant.

Gbinije will sit out next season and have three years of eligibility remaining.
