Former Georgetown forward Greg Whittington chooses Rutgers
Rutgers picked up a major transfer on Saturday night, when former Georgetown forward Greg Whittington chose the Scarlet Knights.
When Georgetown dismissed Greg Whittington during Thanksgiving weekend, the talented forward immediately became the most sought-after player on the transfer market.
On Saturday night, the chase ended: Whittington committed to Rutgers, sources confirmed to CBSSports.com.
Whittington, a 6-foot-8 forward, had also heard from Memphis, Nebraska, South Carolina and Oregon. He hasn't played since the middle of last season, as he was ruled ineligible due to academics for the final 13 games. Then in the summer, he tore his ACL and still had no timetable for a return.
When healthy and on the court, though, Whittington was a difference-maker. He averaged 12.1 points and 7.0 rebounds, and his length and athleticism made him a major factor on the defensive end.
