Houston releases TaShawn Thomas, Danuel House with restrictions
There was finally a resolution to the battle between Houston and TaShawn Thomas and Danuel House. But it might not be over yet.
Since Kelvin Sampson took over at Houston, the biggest storyline has been the Cougars refusing to grant releases to TaShawn Thomas and Danuel House, the team's two leading scorers.
On Friday, we got something of a resolution -- but it's not over just yet.
"Just released with three stipulations," Texas PRO AAU coach Marland Lowe told CBSSports.com on Friday evening.
The restrictions are as follows:
- Any Division-I school in the state of Texas
- Any current schools in the American Athletic Conference, or any school that is currently scheduled to leave or join the league in the next ywo years
- Any school on Houston's 2014-15 or 2015-16 schedule
Both players are from Texas, and have taken issue with the restriction that they can't choose a school close to home.
TaShawn Thomas: "(The stipulation) of not playing in Texas kind of bothered me. We're going to try and appeal it."— Joseph Duarte (@Joseph_Duarte) April 18, 2014
Danuel House on not being allowed to play in Texas: "It seems like they don't want me to be successful in state of Texas unless I go to UH."— Joseph Duarte (@Joseph_Duarte) April 18, 2014
Thomas and House will be coveted prospects on the transfer market either way. Thomas, a 6-foot-8 power forward, averaged 15.4 points and 8.1 rebounds last season, while the 6-foot-7 sophomore House put up 13.6 points and 5.3 rebounds.
Sampson replaced James Dickey in early April.
