What to Know
After two games on the road, the Minnesota Golden Gophers are heading back home. The Golden Gophers and the Iowa Hawkeyes will face off in a Big Ten battle at 2 p.m. ET Sunday at Williams Arena. The teams split their matchups last year, with Minnesota winning the first 102-95 at home and Iowa taking the second 86-71.
It was close but no cigar for Minnesota as they fell 71-69 to the Michigan State Spartans this past Wednesday. Despite the loss, Minnesota had strong showings from forward Eric Curry, who had 19 points along with seven rebounds, and guard Eylijah Stephens, who had 18 points in addition to six boards. Curry hadn't helped his team much against the Indiana Hoosiers last week, so this was a nice turnaround for him. Curry's points were the most he has had all year.
Meanwhile, Iowa beat IU 83-74 this past Thursday. The Hawkeyes can attribute much of their success to forward Kris Murray, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 11 boards in addition to three blocks.
The Golden Gophers are expected to lose this next one by 7. Their home court has been no bettor's paradise, as they've failed to beat the spread in five of their seven home games.
Minnesota is now 10-4 while Iowa sits at 12-4. A couple numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: Minnesota is 48th worst in college basketball in takeaways, with only 11.5 on average. To make matters even worse for the Golden Gophers, the Hawkeyes rank fourth in college basketball when it comes to turnovers per game, with only 8.9 on average. So the cards are definitely stacked in Iowa's favor.
