Kevin Ware cleared by school compliance in speeding ticket matter
It wasn't how fast he was driving, but what he was driving. And according to the school, Ware's case has been cleared.
A day removed from news regarding Louisville junior guard Kevin Ware's reckless driving citation -- and subsequent missed court date -- the school has announced Ware has been cleared by school compliance in regard to the matter.
The detail in question from Ware's Oct. 26 run-in with police came from the fact he was driving a 2013 black Dodge Challenger. A man named Matt Case came forward Monday night on Twitter, claiming the car belonged to him, citing the fact he and Ware were longtime friends.
Ware was clocked doing 95 MPH in a 45 MPH work zone. His court date has been rescheduled for Monday. Case has since deleted his Facebook and Twitter accounts, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal.
The Courier-Journal reached out to Louisville's athletic department for confirmation on the compliance cleaerance. Team spokesman Kenny Klein told the newspaper:
“We were doing our due diligence and we have gone through the process and have not found any issues at all with Kevin,” Klein said by phone. “[The compliance office] is satisfied and [the case] is closed.”
Matt Case, 23, who is enrolled as an undergraduate at U of L, said he lent his car to Ware that night to visit a friend at Western Kentucky University. He said Ware returned the car to him that night, although the police citation said Ware was traveling southbound on I-65 around 11 p.m. ...
Klein said he did not see a potential compliance issue with Case lending his car to Ware, his longtime friend.
“We look closely at the rules and we inform our players of the rules and have regular updates for our players about the rules,” Klein said.
Klein confirmed to CBSSports.com the same information.
Louisville plays Tuesday night at home against Hartford. The Cardinals are 3-0. Ware made his season debut on Friday, scoring five points in 13 minutes off the bench.
