Kevin Ware to attend White House Correspondents' dinner

Kevin Ware is going to get two chances to shake hands with the president this year.

Louisville has announced that Ware received an invite to -- and will attend -- April 27's White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in Washington, D.C. The Louisville basketball team will also, eventually, take a trip to the White House for the customary meet-and-photo-op at some point later this year.

As for the dinner, it's an annual gathering that is lighthearted and filled with ribbing among the Washington media, public figures and the president -- the one time public levity is insisted upon regarding our nation's leader. The event also invites honored guests as well, which is where Ware comes in.

This year's host for the dinner will be Conan O'Brien. Celebrities have long been a big part of the night. The 2013 guest list will include Shaquille O'Neal, Kevin Spacey, Nicole Kidman and Jon Bon Jovi among others. (Jose Canseco's a maybe!)

Ware was invited on behalf of CNN. Large news organizations hand out invitations on their behalf. It's one of the toughest tickets each year in Washngton.

Pretty cool for the kid, right? It's amazing how the star of this year's NCAA tournament wound up being a bench player -- who didn't even play in the Final Four.

If you missed it earlier this week, Ware already has started rehabbing that fractured right leg.
