La Salle's Khalid Lewis questionable for opener after breaking hand
La Salle begins its run back to the Sweet 16 in a couple of weeks, but the Explorers might be without guard Khalid Lewis.
La Salle guard Khalid Lewis suffered a broken bone in his hand earlier this month and his status for the season opener is up in the air.
Lewis, a Delaware transfer who sat out last season, suffered the injury about two weeks ago, a source told CBSSports.com. The Explorers won’t know the timetable for his return until the first week of November.
“We’re going to get it X-rayed on November 5,” head coach John Giannini told City of Basketball Love. “If it’s healed, then he comes back to practice. If not, it’s a week-to-week thing.”
Lewis, a 6-foot-3 combo guard from Trenton, N.J., averaged 5.2 points and 2.6 assists during his one season at Delaware. He is expected to be one of the key backups for Giannini’s Explorers this season, providing terrific perimeter defense.
Coming off a Sweet 16 appearance, La Salle opens its Nov. 9 against Manhattan.
