Remakes can be cool.

What a terrific call this is.

While it's easy -- and silly -- to compare Doug McDermott's game to Larry Bird's, this move from Sports Illustrated is pretty inspired. This week's magazine features surefire Player of the Year Doug McDermott striking the same pose, flanked by two hushed cheerleaders (in this case Bluejays dancers Kelsey Saddoris and Kayleigh Begley), in the same vein as the famous Larry Bird cover from Nov. 28, 1977.

Here's a side-by-side:

I finally realized why it looks so interesting though: McDermott isn't wearing sleeves/an undershirt. I've never seen him bare the pipes.

McDermott and 14th-ranked Creighton are the No. 2 seed in this week's Big East tournament, which gets underway Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden. The Bluejays will play the winner of Georgetown-DePaul at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the photo shoot. The cover is for a story written by Luke Winn.
