Loyola Marymount hires Mike Dunlap as new head coach
Loyola Marymount found its new head coach less than 24 hours after parting ways with Max Good.
One day after parting ways with head coach Max Good, Loyola Marymount has already moved on.
The Lions hired Mike Dunlap as their next head coach.
"I love the challenge of coming to LMU, and love the fact I am going back home," Dunlap said in a statement. "I am really comfortable with the Southern California and Northern California student-athlete that is going to end up at LMU, and I think this is a great fit."
Dunlap, a graduate of Loyola Marymount, was the head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats during the 2012-13 season. He also spent time as an assistant with the Denver Nuggets in the NBA, and Arizona, Oregon, and St. John's at the college level.
When Steve Lavin missed most of St. John's 2011-12 season after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer, Lavin's then-assistant Dunlap went 11-17 in his absence.
"I am very excited at the prospect of Mike Dunlap leading the Lions into the future," athletic director Dr. William Husak said. "Mike brings to the position a wealth of experience both as a head coach and as an assistant working under and with some of the best coaches in the collegiate and professional basketball world."
Loyola Marymount went 13-19 this season.
