Five-star point guard Javonte Smart publicly committed to LSU on Friday in a development that suggests Will Wade will secure back-to-back heralded recruiting classes in his attempt to rebuild LSU.

Smart is ranked 21st in the Class of 2018, according to 247Sports. He reportedly had offers from many schools -- most notably Kansas. But the 6-foot-4 playmaker ultimately decided to stay home. He is from, and still lives in, Baton Rouge.

Smart's commitment is the latest recruiting win for Wade -- who replaced Johnny Jones in March after leading VCU to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Wade, in a matter of weeks, secured a 2017 recruiting class that ranks 15th nationally, according to 247Sports. Now his 2018 class is off to a big start thanks to this early commitment from Smart. Meantime, five-star forward Naz Reid is visiting LSU's campus this weekend. He's ranked 11th in the Class of 2018, according to 247Sports.
