Michigan State's Branden Dawson sidelined by broken hand

Michigan State wing Branden Dawson has a broken bone in his right hand and will miss the next four or five weeks of games, the school announced Thursday afternoon.

Dawson told reporters that he suffered the injury when he got frustrated and slammed his hand against a table Thursday morning, according to Michigan State beat writer Joe Rexrode. Surgery is scheduled for Thursday night. "I'll be fine," Dawson said.

Dawson is averaging 10.1 points and 8.7 rebounds.

The Spartans are 17-1 and ranked third in the AP poll.

Their next game is Saturday night against 21st-ranked Michigan.
