Mississippi State freshman guard Andre Applewhite suffers season-ending injury
Rick Ray's rebuilding job at Mississippi State just got slightly more difficult with the season-ending injury to freshman guard Andre Applewhite.
Rick Ray's rebuilding job at Mississippi State just got slightly more difficult.
(And it was already going to be really, really difficult.)
The first-year coach announced Tuesday that freshman Andre Applewhite has a torn ACL and torn meniscus in his left knee and will miss the entire 2012-13 season. The 6-foot-5 guard suffered the injuries on Friday in practice. He signed with Mississippi State last April after a prep career during which he was teammates at Central High in Memphis with Tennessee sophomore Jarnell Stokes.
This development leaves the Bulldogs with just eight healthy scholarship players to start a season in which they were already picked to finish last in the SEC. Mississippi State opens the season on Friday in Starkville against Troy.
