Nebraska takes Miami to OT on double-pump 3, but Canes escape

Miami nearly lost its second straight game at Nebraska. (USATSI)

Miami started the season fast with five wins, including victories against Utah and Butler, before falling to Northeastern by one on the day after Thanksgiving. The Hurricanes, down to No. 21 in the polls after the loss, were lucky to win 77-72 on Tuesday night at Nebraska.

Star guard Shavon Shields went nuts, putting up a game-high 28 points for the Cornhuskers while freshman Glynn Watson Jr. (11 points) hit a clutch 3-pointer to force overtime at the end of regulation.

Davon Reed didn't have his best game, but delivered in overtime the 3-pointer that sealed the win for Miami. It's the second straight game the Hurricanes have been pushed by at team they should beat, but the offensive efficiency this team has shown against good competition points to sustained success. Jim Larranaga can work out kinks in practice with this veteran-laden team, and we'll check back on their status as a Top 20 team next when Miami hosts Florida.
