North Carolina State closes the deal with top-50 big BeeJay Anya
Heading into decision day for BeeJay Anya, only one school was left on his list: North Carolina State. As a result, Anya announced for the Wolfpack.
With basketball recruiting getting so much coverage these days, when a college announcement has no suspense it usually just means that all signs are pointing in one direction. In BeeJay Anya’s case, there was no suspense because there was only one school on his list.
Not surprisingly, Anya announced Friday for North Carolina State.
The 6-foot-7 center from DeMatha (Md.) announced he had trimmed his list to North Carolina State and Indiana in late October. When Indiana focused all its attention on Noah Vonleh, that left the Wolfpack for Anya. On Friday, they closed the deal.
Despite being undersized, Anya has a tremendous wingspan and uses it to grab rebounds and make an impact on the defensive end of the floor. He averaged 10.5 rebounds and 6.8 blocks a season ago for DeMatha. Offensively, he can finish when given an opening, but needs to improve his ability to score with his back to the basket.
Anya’s commitment is just another in what has been a very productive few months for Mark Gottfried and the Wolfpack. Moreover, he pushes NC State’s 2013 class into the top 10 nationally, joining No. 12 Anthony “Cat” Barber and No. 90 Kyle Washington. Even if North Carolina State loses a couple of players to the NBA, Gottfried now has reinforcements.
