Notebook: Five-star F Jermaine Lawrence trims list to four
The college hoops season is starting on Friday, but recruiting isn't slowing down. Five-star forward Jermaine Lawrence cut his list, while Xavier picked up a four-star junior.

Commitments have been flying off the board lately, with only 17 players in our top 100 still on the board. With that said, nine of the top 17 guys are uncommitted, meaning there is still plenty of talent left.
My final list is UNLV, St Johns, Syracuse and Cincinnati.Looking forward to this upcoming season. Still making my decision in the spring.— Jermaine Lawrence (@mainestory) November 8, 2012
Lawrence, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Pope John XXIII (N.J.), is ranked No. 15 in our top 100. He raised his stock in a major way over the spring and summer, going from an inconsistent frontcourt player to one of the more difficult matchups in the country. Lawrence’s perimeter game has improved, while he is still able to score inside. When he’s focused, Lawrence is a top-notch prospect.
Xavier nabs four-star junior
Xavier looks poised to struggle, with just a handful of players returning from last season and multiple recruits academically ineligible. However, the Musketeers received a bit of good news on Thursday.
Melvin Swift, a 6-foot-7 forward, pledged to Xavier.
Swift is ranked No. 49 in our class of 2014 rankings. The Yates (Texas) product is an intriguing prospect due to his athleticism and ability to run the floor. He can score in transition, but is also capable of driving to the basket or getting baskets in the post. He is still refining his offensive game overall, but his natural ability is fun to watch.
Baylor, LSU, Texas A&M and others were also involved.
- Schuyler Rimmer, Stanford (former Florida commit)
- Jamaree Strickland, Cincinnati
- Greg Sequele, DePaul
- Kamall Richards, Xavier
- Javion Ogunyemi, Siena
- Ken Williams, South Alabama
- Denzel Taylor, Old Dominion
- Brian White, The Citadel
- D.J. Bowles, Wichita State
- Charlendez Brooks, Winthrop
- Josh James, IUPUI
- Chukwudubem Okeke, Winthrop
- Corbyn Jackson, Radford
- Damon Collins, Howard
